"You are what you eat," NETFLIX Twin Study documentary
My husband and I were captivated and thoroughly enjoyed watching this 4-part Netflix series called You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment. The show chronicles the experience of four pair of identical twins who participated in an eight-week study with Stanford Medicine researchers, involving twenty-two pairs of identical twins, as they changed their diets and lifestyles for eight weeks in a unique Stanford University scientific experiment designed to explore how certain foods (vegan vs. omnivore) impact the body.
Christopher Gardner, PhD, says having his research featured in the Netflix food series has been one of the more impactful things he’s done in more than 30 years at Stanford. “I’m always trying to get people to eat more healthfully, and it often doesn’t work,” said Gardner. “I don’t actually care if they eat a vegan diet, just more plants and less meat. That’s what I’ve been all about for a long, long time.”
It’s important to watch all four episodes, because Netflix did a good job of interspersing lots of interesting anecdotal footage and interviews with farmers, food suppliers, fitness trainers, health practitioners, patients, and even a 3-star Michelin and “Best Restaurant in the World Award” winning chef in New York. Watching this series helped us effortlessly improve our orientation to shopping and food consumption in the best of ways.
